Virtual Hosting at Cucin.Net means your company has its own unique
presence on the Internet.
Why Virtual Hosting?
Customers will find you faster. Let's face it, searching for information on the Internet is tough and, if your customers have
to type some cryptic address to locate your home page, you've just made it even tougher. With Virtual Hosting, your company
name is most often times incorporated into your address, making it much easier for your customers to remember and find you
faster. Because your company name is most often times incorporated into your address, your business cards and company letterhead look
more professional.
It's portable. If you move, you can simply move your e-mail and web pages to another
provider (assuming they do virtual
hosting) without having to change your e-mail/web address.
Why Virtual Host with Cucin.Net?
The first Virtually Hosted personal domain on an account is $40/month. Second and
all
subsequent personal VH domains are charged at $35. Pricing of commercial
hostings is based upon bandwidth needs but begin at $100.00/month. A Secure Socket
Layer apache server is available.
Details
Do you currently have a registered domain name?
If so, we charge a $50 transfer fee to move it from your current provider.
If not, we'll handle the registration details for $120. This is good for two years and includes all registration fees.
You will have unlimited FTP access to update your 10 Mbytes of website storage on
the internet through your current internet provider. At present we do not provide
remote dial-up access. Additional storage can be purchased for $5/month for each additional
10Mbytes.
Making It All Work
E-mail:
You will wish to make some changes in your mailer for the "from:" field of the mail
messages to reflect your virtual hosting rather than the default mail host. The
following example is for Eudora, but should work for most mail programs:
In Eudora, select SPECIAL, then SETTINGS
Select Getting Started, then enter your new e-mail address in the POP account field.
Select Personal Information, then enter your new e-mail address in the Return address
field.
Also, check WIN_VN, Mosaic, Agent, Netscape, MacWeb, etc. Many programs have
configuration menus which contain your E-mail address. You should change all to reflect
your own address. If you forget, the mail will still show up, but it will be addressed to
"username@cucin.net" instead of "username@yourcompany.com".
After making these changes, send mail to yourself at "username@yourcompany.com". Look at the header and make sure that the
From: and To: fields are correct.
If you prefer or at times reqire a browser interface to retrieve your
mail, you can do so from http://cucin.net/mailman. A
web password, which must be diffrent from your shell password, will be provided upon
request since browsers are notoriously unreliable for following no-cache requests.
Dial-in:
Do NOT change your dialer program, e.g. Trumpet Winsock, Dial-Up Networking, Config PPP, etc. "yourcompany.com" should NOT
appear anywhere in your dialer setup.
Web Page:
The URL of your home page is http://www.yourcompany.com,
if you don't have a home page, references to "www.yourcompany.com"
will bring up Cucin.Net's home page. If/when you get a home page let us know. If you
don't want "www.yourcompany.com" to
display Cucin.net or you encounter any problems let
us know. We reserve the right to display non-prurient advertising until
your account is fully activated.
Assistance is available for an additional fee to assist you with design of your web site and
setting it up for E-commerce. Assistance is also available to assist you with specific
scripting or database needs with charges based upon an incident/project
pricing. Any scripts need be preapproved and may not be run from home
directories.
FTP:
If you have a FTP site, ftp.yourcompany.com will
refer to the computer where your site is located. Your clients must
supply
the appropriate username/password to gain access. Otherwise you will have a Virtual
Anonymous FTP site to the Cucin.net
archives and you should let us know what directory you would like your Anonymous FTP site "attached" to. Once this is set,
visitors need not supply a username and password to gain access.
